History
Years ago, our district used SpedDoc, the precursor to EdDocVermont, to manage our Special Education documentation needs. Unfortunately, SpedDoc wasn’t web-based, so we couldn’t use it outside our school building. We switched to GoalView software (another program that does a similar task) in 2012. We used it for about 5 years, but we were never happy with it.
When we found that DocuSped (now EdDocVermont) was the web-based successor to SpedDoc, our staff wanted to go back to it because of the ease of use. We switched back to EdDocVermont in 2017. EdDocVermont really meets our needs as a Vermont school district much better than GoalView did.
Transition
The transition from GoalView to EdDocVermont was very simple. Richard Smith supported us fully with downloading and uploading student files. He also did training with our full staff the first year, and he comes back every August to train new staff.
The program is very reasonable in price, and there was no additional cost for transitioning to EdDocVermont.
Made in Vermont
One reason I like EdDocVermont is that it’s a local Vermont company. When I email EdDocVermont, I get a very fast response to any question or problem. I also feel like my staff has a personal relationship with Richard, so they feel supported.
Richard is in close communication with the Vermont Agency of Education personnel, from the state director to people who work in Medicaid. He keeps a pulse on changes that have to be made in our forms and he is a strong advocate for us as directors in terms of getting our needs met quickly and efficiently. There is no lag in getting items updated and entered into our system.
Best Features of EdDocVermont
Ease of use—the “what you see is what you get” screen interface makes it simple for staff to learn and use. The entry screens on the computer look just like the final printed forms. That’s not the case with other companies’ software.
Our staff did not like the other system we were using because it was cumbersome. With GoalView, you have to save everything you do, and in EdDocVermont you don’t—that’s automatic.
EdDocVermont is easy to use and does everything we need to manage our Special Education students’ information.
